Culebra (Collibra) Island: Dasol Secret Hideaway

Collibra or Culebra Island is what you are looking for in Dasol, Pangasinan. White sand beach plus rock formations equals paradise.

Culebra Island, or Collibra Island is an island paradise about 15-20 minutes by boat from the shores of Tambobong Beach in Dasol, Pangasinan. This island in Dasol boasts off its fine white sand beach and a total half of mysteriously formed rock formations. Its white sands were derived from the crushed rocks from the rock formations, and travelers will be able to understand this phenomenon once they get there. Another distinct property of Culebra or Collibra Island is that it has only four tall coconut trees and the rest are rocks and grasses. Tourists are advised therefore to bring umbrella and sun block if they plan to stay long in the island.

Pangasinan beaches are a pride: fine white, gold and grey beaches are in this province.
This is the whitest sand beach in Dasol, Pangasinan.

Failed jumpshot in Collibra Island!

The beauty of Culebra Island is enticing you to swim on it.

Part 5 of Dasol Hideaway (Another Pangasinan Island Hopping)

After we passed the growling Crocodile Island, we directly headed to Culebra Island, an island where the finest and creamiest sand beach in Dasol, Pangasinan was found. Upon reaching the island, we eagerly laid out our blanket and put all our things on it. The color of the sands was enticing that we did some jump shots on it. We were supposed to eat our lunch early but because we landed on a paradise lost in an island, we eventually swam on its waters, took some pictures and enjoyed bathing under the heat of the sun.

If I were to compare the sands of Culebra Island to the sands found in Tambobong Beach, I’ll score a difference of five units between the two. Yes, the island is a lot more beautiful than Tambobong Beach. A stiff competitor that can be compared to Culebra Island is Patar Beach in Bolinao. The only difference is the color. Patar Beach in Bolinao is somewhat nearer to yellow or gold. Culebra Island is creamier in appearance, and when noon time comes, the brightness of the sun will make the sands white.  In Patar Beach, the brightness of the sun will make the sands look like gold. So if you’re looking for a creamy white sand beach in Pangasinan, go to Dasol and find Culebra Island.

Our boat in Culebra Island shores.

This is what you'll get when it's noon time!  The finest white sand beach in Pangasinan ever!

We were the only tourists when we were there so Collibra Island was all ours that time!

The island is owned by nobody so expect some dried grasses and weeds on the shores. Other than that, you don’t have to worry about anything else as the island still looks in its natural state. The other half of the island were rock formations, so go ahead and explore it, just though be careful as the rocks are slippery when wet. From Culebra Island, you will get to see the mountains of Zambales and white shoreline of Pangasinan. You are going to be lost, but the feeling of being lost is like being in a world of you and the paradise around you.

You can actually walk the island in just 10 minutes; it’s small as you can think off. And the best thing I had experienced when we got there was the fact that it was only us when we were there. We were only five when we were on the island. It gave us the feeling that we owned the island paradise—at least for half a day. Imagine, you own a white sand beach island for one day—awesome! It’s like owning Boracay for a day. And it’s free!

Swim until you drop haha.

After a few hours of owning the island, we decided to move on with our trip. We were supposed to visit the shipwreck and the cave but we haven’t visited them. So the island paradise was our last destination for the tour. Even though we didn’t visit the other tourist spots there, Culebra Island somehow fulfilled our dream of owning an island for a few hours—without additional fee.

We went back to our kubo and took a bath. After that we already fixed our things and left Tambobong Beach for home. We hired two trikes to bring us to Burgos then we rode a jeep to Alaminos and rode a bus for Baguio (or Tarlac).

Culebra (or Collibra) Island is so far the best island I visited in North Central Luzon. Culebra Island is definitely one of the must visit places in Pangasinan, other than the stunning beach in Patar, Bolinao or the Hundred Islands in Alaminos. if you happen to visit Tambobong Beach in Dasol, do not forget to go to Culebra Island, and there you will find the serenity and paradise you’ve been wanting for.

Culebra Island is an island paradise truly.
