Kapay-aw Rice Terraces in Sagada

To go to Sumaguing Cave, one has to take the road that also leads to the entrance trail to Lumiang Cave. To reach the “Big Cave”, you also have to pass by the side of the zipline adventure and the Kapay-aw Rice Terraces. It wasn’t the planting season nor the harvest season when we visited Sagada, so Kapay-aw Rice Terraces were not at their best. Well, but at least we saw it.

On our way to Sumaguing Cave: Kapay-aw Rice Terraces
Kapay-aw Rice Terraces would have been so green if we visited it around February or March, when farmers plant the rice. It would have been golden when we visited it at harvest time. Kapay-aw Rice Terraces are not the only rice terraces in Sagada. There are also Kiltepan Rice Terraces and the rice terraces along the trail to Bomod-ok Falls. Here we say that Banaue is not the only town that has wonderful terraces.

It was just a short glimpse and you can see in my pictures that it was already getting dark when we saw the Kapay-aw Rice Terraces. I didn’t know about it, but it happened that I asked my friend about these rice terraces along the way. He told me they were the Kapay-aw Rice Terraces. See, tourist spots are just everywhere in Sagada.

Pine trees in Sagada

I don’t have clearer or brighter or more colorful photo of the terraces because it was already getting 5 PM when we pass by it. Our main purpose was to actually visit the “Big Cave”, and Sumaguing Cave was adjacent to Kapay-aw Rice Terraces. If you want to enjoy more of Kapay-aw Rice Terraces, maybe you can go down the terraces or try the zipline (P150) though I haven’t tried them yet.

It would have been a better photo if we only visited Sumaguing Cave at daytime. Pine trees and the rice plants just compliment with each other. Next time, I’ll do the Cave Connection in Sagada which will first trail from the entrance to Lumiang Cave and exit at the Big Cave. From there I will be able to see Kapay-aw Rice Terraces while the sun is still up. Just next time.
